Majoritatea oamenilor nu năzuiesc, nu vor şi nu le place să trăiască decît pentru a trăi. Adevăratul obiect al vieţii este însăşi viaţa şi trudnica tîrîre, pe acelaşi drum, încoace şi încolo, a unui car gol, dar foarte greu.
(Most of the people do not aspire, do not want and do not like to live but for living. The true object of life is the life itself and the tiresome drawing, on the same road, here and there, of an empty wagon, but very weighty.)
